Semana Santa

My parents were here just long enough to experience the first night of Holy Week in Spain.  And did we ever experience it!  My friend Kara has a Spanish friend Loli, who was nice enough to take us into Rota to watch the procession.  During these processions you will see hooded penitents carrying tall candles.  This night of Palm Sunday has many children participating in the procession.  A large float of Jesus depicts a scene from the time between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.  Strong men hidden underneath carry these floats, shuffling through the narrow cobblestone streets with only their feet visible, all accompanied and coordinated with music.  Loli knew just where to take us to see the procession at different times, first on the street, next she took us to her cousins balcony to watch from above, then to a beach front house!  Absolutely amazing, will have to go to more while we are here!

You can see the white shoes peaking out from underneath!
