So, Feb 20th, the kids had off of school for President's Day, and the base housing area was going to be without power for the day...what do you do...go away!!! We went on an adventure with a couple of other families and picked a few places that we had never been! This winter in Spain has been better than we expected, warm weather and not much rain, so we took advantage of that this weekend!
First stop...Juzcar...aka....smurf village! This white village was painted blue to promote the recent Smurf movie. The town then voted to keep the blue color. I think we were all a little worried that this would be a bust, but the kids loved it! And I have to admit I did too, I mean who didn't watch the smurfs on Saturday mornings growing up??

First stop, hot chocolate and cafe con leche! |
Next stop, Ronda...very pretty white village! We went and checked into our hotel first, a little outside of town, very cute Spanish hotel, I didn't take any pictures....bummer. Then we headed into town. After enjoying lunch we headed around town to take in the scenery. The town is split down the middle by a gorge, with a beautiful bridge, or Puente Nuevo, to get across. We then visited Casa del Rey Moro and hiked down dark steps to the bottom of the gorge, an old water mine. It was beautiful and so peaceful at the bottom! The kids all did great with the hike down, so afterwards were rewarded with ice cream! Then dinner at the hotel for desert!

Day 2, we headed to Grazalema. We had been there before, but it was rainy and foggy. The drive from Ronda to Grazalema was so beautiful, with views of Zahara de la Sierra in the distance...no pictures because I was driving! The town of Grazalema is very small, we walked around and found a few things to make a picnic lunch, then headed on a short hike! Once again, all kiddos did great and we enjoyed the views when we were done. I didn't take my camera on the hike, so pictures are of the town!

After our hike we headed to another white village called Ubrique. This village is tucked away in the valley. We wondered around, and it seemed to take us a while to get ourselves oriented and figure out where we wanted to go. We climbed up and managed to catch the sun setting over the mountains. We peaked in some shops, Ubrique is known for leather, but we didn't find anything. Overall, fun adventure and saw 4 beautiful and different white villages!

These tiny streets that we wandered up reminded me of Greece! |

These dogs were on top of the awning parking at the people in the square! |
